In the finals, Goku finds himself drawn against Master Roshi. With Gohan leading the way the battle becomes a whirling fight between the two green-robed masters. Roshi manages to possess Goku and is slowly making him stronger, but he is soon defeated. Goku then fights against the evil blue monastic warrior Sorbet, and manages to defeat him. Sorbet then tries to turn Gohan against the world, but is defeated again by Goku. Goku however is soon defeated in the form of a green mist and avoids being killed by letting Sorbet shoot him, thus saving Gohan. With the victory all sealed, Pei once again releases Goku from his imprisonment in the training ball. Goku gives Gohan his evil violet colored power ball for safe keeping, having survived the battle. Goku then returns home to the Sacred Land of Korin to rest up for the next tournament. But, during a visit to the Valley of Fortunes, he finds that a famine has ravaged the valley, and a group of people call on Goku to help harvest the season's first crop of sweet potatoes and kelp.[94] Goku agrees to help, and along with the villagers they gather up the produce.
"I have to do this,'' says one of the peasant women in the valley. "Please, please! I have no child. My husband and I just want to get through this famine. You're strong. You could just come back tomorrow and harvest the crops. I don't want to ask you to do anything but this.''
"He's right,'' says Gohan. "We're scholars. We know how to harvest a sweet potato out of the ground and how to heal your child. We're not good farmers. We're just good enough to bring out the best in the people who live around here."
As the villagers begin to harvest the crops, Goku figures out that the bounty is there because they are using the Power Pole on the mountain. He leads a group of the villagers down the path to where the money is being taken. Hearing that they are coming, Vegeta, Trunks, Gohan and King Dabura rush to the battle.
